The Makio House is a beautiful structure located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It occupies a corner lot with plenty of greenery and tall trees all around it and a really nice tropical scenery on the horizon. It was designed and built-in 2020 by studio Fabian Tan Architects. The goal was from the very beginning to create a residence that’s minimalistic but that at the same time manages to be very comfortable and to feel inviting.
The design as a whole focuses on letting the house fully embrace the beautiful views offered by the site. It has large openings that let in lots of natural sunlight and it maintains a strong relationship with the surroundings and the outdoors in general. The interior spaces feel very open and airy, especially the living area which has a double height ceiling and windows that go all the way up, from floor to ceiling. The sliding glass doors open up this area to a beautiful outdoor section, allowing it to be extended outside.
One of the most notable design elements is the staircase. It has been designed as a statement piece and it has a simple yet bold geometry. The staircase is made out of wood and was meant to contrast with the white walls and the minimalist decor around it. Its role was also to highlight some of the architectural elements of the house. Wood was also used as an accent materials throughout the rest of the house. It adds warmth and style to every single space.
