If you’d like to try a different type of hotel experience, one that’s built on history and everything that comes with it, visit the Glonn region in Germany. Here you’ll find a beautiful hotel that was once a farmhouse. It sits in the middle of a lovely clearing and it provides inviting and comfortable accommodations while also giving visitors a look at the past of this charming place.
On this very location there used to be a big manor house back in the Middle Ages which has been burnt down and destroyed. Sometime later a Bavarian farmhouse was built in its place. In the 1900s the farmhouse was extended with a stud farm and then in the 1960s with a dairy farm and a gardening area as well. This also used to be a training camp for horses.
In 1985 the current owner purchased this piece of land and that’s when a shift was made towards organic food production. In 2016 part of the farmhouse was destroyed in a fire and that’s when architecture studio vonMeierMohr Architenken stepped in to restore and renovate this whole place, also transforming it into the hotel that it is today.
The restoration and reconstruction were not easy and great was care was given to the original design and details of the farmhouse. It was also during this process that the architects discovered the original farmhouse was organized into three layers. This structure was implemented in the new design. The ground floor is where the Farmers Club area is which includes a bar, a gallery and big outdoor areas which can be used for various events and activities. The two upper sections contain the new guest rooms so that’s where you’ll be staying is you ever decide to visit this beautiful place.
