Not everyone has the same knowledge of different paint colors. If you have been looking for blue paint colors, your knowledge of blue has probably broadened. That’s the way it goes when remodeling a home.
One unique paint color that was very popular a decade ago is Revere Pewter. The color, and metal, pewter is quite popular itself, being rich, cool, and inviting. But what do you know about Revere Pewter?
Revere Pewter is a color that a lot of people are familiar with. But if you weren’t into painting and remodeling when it was released then you may have never heard of it. Perhaps it is finally making a comeback.
What Is Revere Pewter HC-172?
Revere Pewter is a paint color by Benjamin-Moore that was popularized in the 2010s. It is defined by the company as, “A light gray with warm undertones, this classic shade creates a unifying look that calms and restores. A great transitional color, it’s perfect for an open floor plan.”
Although pegged a gray color, Revere Pewter is truly more of a greige color. The term greige wasn’t widely used in the early 2010s when Revere Pewter was popular. But it is today when the color is still relevant.
Though no one knows for sure what will be popular next year or even next month, we can always make our guesses. Revere Pewter has a good chance of making it back in the headlines for one particular reason.
Is Revere Pewter Greige?
Revere Pewter is greige, indeed. Greige is a wonderful neutral color that is a mix of gray and beige. We’ve written a guide on greige that is worth checking out if you are interested in the color itself and how broad it can be.
The reason greige is so popular is that people are tired of there only being four neutrals. Black, white, gray, and brown. Beige is also a neutral color so when you mix it with gray, you can get the infamous greige.
The balance of the color is outstanding. It isn’t too dark, too light, too cool, or too warm. It is usually a perfect temperature. The exact balance of the gray to beige depends on what you are looking for in a color.
Is Revere Pewter More Beige Or Gray?
Now that we’ve gone over what color Revere Pewter is and have decided that it is greige, it’s time to find out the balance of the two colors. While it seems to be fairly balanced in general, one of the two colors is favored.
While gray is strong in Revere Pewter, surprisingly enough, it seems that the beige is actually stronger. You would assume it would be the other way around considering “pewter” is more gray or silver in color.
But Revere Pewter is a special color that doesn’t just follow rules. It is a greige color that is smooth, with a neutral temperature slightly favoring the warmth of beige to the coolness of the gray tones in it.
The LRV Of Revere Pewter
LRV stands for light reflectance value. This affects the amount of light that is reflected off of the color. Black has a 0% LRV and white has 100% LRV when they are both in the purest forms known to man.
Revere Pewter has a nearly perfectly balanced LRV of 55. This means it reflects half the light it is exposed to and is very average with its LRV rating. This makes it balanced for most rooms that have a decent light exposure.
If the lighting is quite low in the room, you may want something with a higher light value but if you have a lot of light then something with a slightly lower value may be less intense. But it all depends on how much light you prefer.
What Colors Go Well With Revere Pewter?
Revere Pewter is a fairly easy color to match given the balance that it brings to any room. But Benjamin-Moore pairs four neutral colors with it that all really complement Revere Pewter well and vice versa.
Keep in mind that it is perfectly okay to match bright colors with Revere Pewter. It is simply that those colors are more about personal taste. But the differences in neutrals are harder to spot with the untrained eye.
