Terracotta is a color that is inspired by the color of terracotta. The word terracotta literally translates into “baked earth” which is an accurate name for such a term. Terracotta is fired clay that has been turned into earthenware.

The color is gorgeous and has been used for thousands of years. After all, the terracotta soldiers have been around since BCE, making them over 2000 years old. They weren’t even the first terracotta creation.

No one knows what the first terracotta creation was but we do know that we can honor them all by using the color of terracotta in our homes. But how do we go about doing so? Maybe you want to make the color of terracotta from scratch?

Making terracotta is fairly easy once you get used to it. You should start with a warm light brown and mix it slowly with red. Brown should be the main color with red being the off color to give it richness.

When mixing, ensure that you are using paints with the same base, and preferably the same brand. Terracotta paint color is available but if you want to mix your own color, then this is how you do it.

Denim and terracotta can look absolutely amazing together. This trend began with fashion and it didn’t stop there. You can use terracotta and denim anywhere, even as a color scheme for your room.

There are many shades for denim that you can use and you can even mix and match them. When you do, an orange-tinted terracotta usually works out best, but a toned-down brown terracotta is a great muted combo.

Beige and terracotta are a great duo that is safe and secure. You can choose beige for your terracotta no matter what shade of terracotta you choose. Beige goes with anything even if terracotta does not.

For best results, try sticking with a very light being or very dark. Contrasting them is your best bet or the room can be overwhelmed with one tone. Start with light beige and dark terracotta.

This is the beginning of going bold with terracotta color schemes. Mint is a safe bright color to use because it is also soft and sweet. One comes in many shades but a very soft shade works best with terracotta.

Because terracotta is so warm and mint is so cool, they balance each other out extremely well. Try them in the kitchen or bathroom for best results as the kitchen, in particular, thrives on this type of balance.

You can get terracotta paint and paint the entire exterior of your house. For best results, paint the trim white, black, or another that complements terracotta. This will ensure it isn’t overwhelming the curb.

Real Terracotta

Using real terracotta is the perfect way to incorporate the color into your home the right way. Authenticity is something you can ever go wrong with, so always be willing to add more authenticity to your home.

You can get small terracotta sculptures or even chairs! There are many different terracotta items you can add to your home because terracotta home decor is a trend that won’t be ending anytime soon.

Drywall Texture Terracotta

Have you ever considered changing up your drywall texture? This is something that isn’t all that difficult to do but it can make a huge difference in how your home looks, at least in the room you do it in.

Use a very textured texture and paint over it with a terracotta paint color. Then, the walls will look like real adobe or real terracotta while you didn’t pay more than $100 to paint the entire room or even house!

Accent Tiles

Terracotta tiles are the most popular way to use terracotta these days. But not everyone wants their entire floors covered in tile, especially terracotta tiles. This can be overwhelming to any room, to say the least.

But what you can do is buy a few accent tiles and either place them in the midst of other tiles or frame them. If you frame tiles, they can be used as wall art or placed on a desk to add that extra layer of character.

Throw Pillows

Throw pillows are probably the easiest way to get that terracotta in without going overboard. You can add any number of throw pillows that are terracotta and your room will still look tasteful. Sp go ahead and get carried away.

Doing Terracotta The Right Way

Is there a right way to add terracotta to your home? Not really! That’s because interior design is all about expression. You can add it in small forms or use it as much as you want, even if someone else thinks it is too much.

Express yourself your way because in the end, this is your space and it should be used to make you, and those living in the home, as comfortable as possible. So dare to be you and add that terracotta your way.
